If you'd like to play a network game of Descent using Novell's MacIPX® drivers, they are included here for your convenience.
MacIPX is useful if you'd like to play Descent against PC computers on the same network. MacIPX may also be useful on certain network configurations where, for one reason or another, AppleTalk-based Descent games run poorly. If you have speed or reliability problems playing an AppleTalk netgame, try MacIPX instead.
To install MacIPX, drag each of the four MacIPX files to the following locations on your startup hard disk:
MacIPX: Drag to your "Control Panels" folder within your System folder.
MacIPX AppleTalk: Drag to your "Extensions" folder within your System folder.
MacIPX Ethernet: Drag to your "Extensions" folder within your System folder.
MacIPX Token Ring: Drag to your "Extensions" folder within your System folder.
Once you've installed MacIPX in this way, restart your Macintosh, open the MacIPX Control Panel, click the "Ethernet" icon, and close the Control Panel. You should then be able to play an IPX netgame of Descent.
If you have difficulties joining a netgame when using IPX, have all players go to the MacIPX Control Panel and double-click the "Ethernet" icon. On the next dialog box, make sure all players are set to the same frame type. MacIPX usually auto-configures this setting correctly, but in some cases all players may have to manually set the frame type to the same setting.
